Pete: Thanks for the informative and entertaining answer to my question about how the "Dirty Side" of the Chariton Branch got its name. To answer your question. No, I didn't know any of the agents on the Chariton Branch. For some reason my folks went to Lineville, on the CRI&P's "Golden State Route" more frequently than Leon or Garden Grove on the Q so my early exposure was to the Rock Island. The folks must have been latent railfans in that a trip to Lineville frequently involved a trip to the depot. especially if there was any train activity taking place. It was only a half block from the business dirstict. The depots in Leon and Garden Grove were much farther from the business district and with less railroad activity than Lineville. Again thanks for sharing. Meredith Johnston Spencer, IA > > Did you perhaps know any of the agents on the Chariton Branch???
