Jonathan -
I thought Karl Rethwisch would have answered this for you by now, but since he
hasn't (that I'm aware of), I believe I can identify one of the engineers. The
engineer on the 4960 at Rockford is Henry J. Groesch, aka "Izzy" or "Isadore"
and a was "legend" in his time. His "mug" was on the dust jacket of the book,
"Diesels West", by D.P.Morgan and published by Kalmbach in 1963. His son,
Larry, well into his 70s, is an engineer on the BNSF at Rochelle and carries on
the family tradition. Interestingly, Larry was one of the few 1964 Award 282
severed firemen who was "recalled" by the 1973(?) Engineer Training Agreement.
As for the engineer on the 5632, Oregon Turn fantrip in 1962, I will defer to
Karl Rethwisch for his input, as he might have been the fireman on it. Don't
know if the OT was a six day job at this time or not; it could be the regular
engineer or an Aurora Extra Board engineer. Maybe SJH of SC, since he is
"retired" now and has plenty of spare time on his hands, has all his "stuff"
unpacked after his recent move, could go thru all his dispatcher sheets, and
positively identify the engineer for us. After he does that, maybe he could
look for the engine crews on the 9/6/1959 double-header trip with the 6315 &
5632. One must stay active, mentally, when 'retired'.
