Earlville is located in Illinois along the main to Galesburg and Denver.
Earlville is the first town to the east of Mendota. The tower would have been
protecting the crossing with the CNW Troy Grove branch. I'm not sure that is
what it was called while the tower was in operation, but this line came off the
CNW in DeKalb and angled SW to Troy Grove (where it ends now) and then down to
the RI at Spring Valley.

Virden and Girard were located south of Springfield, IL along the Beardstown
Sub. From what I can gather from my maps, Virden controlled the crossing of a
CNW line that used to come down out of Peoria and Pekin and run south to the
St. Louis area(it now cuts over to the former C&A and then peels off south onto
the continuation of the same line.) Girard looks to be where the Q crossed the
C&A after running parallel to it for a short distance. This line then extends
to Centralia and points beyond.

I hope this helps and am open to any corrections as these maps have a tendency
to be a bit off.

            Hi folks,

I am involved in compiling a list of interlocking' s on the full CB&Q system

over the years. Recently I came across names I have not come across before. I

have very little paper (ETT's etc.) so I am not able to check myself.

The names are Virden, Girard, and Earlville. I would also appreciate any

information on a second tower at East Winona. The CB&Q due to the complex
system

they had and it's routes, had far more interlocking' s over the years than

other Hill companies and also due to it's prudence produced less paper than

most Class 1's. This makes research on the systems interlocking' s all the
more

fun (I think).

Thank's in advance,

Peter E Thompson.
