Just to throw in my $0.02:
Silver Treasure was built with a steam generator for the Silver Streak Zephyr,
which was
planned to be pulled by a boiler-less EA. As more E units were acquired, the
S/G was
removed from the car, circa 1952-3.
A fomer 14th Street Coach Yard clerk does not recall turning, or checking water
tank levels
on CZ bags, unlike the NP cars. I have no record of these cars every containing
water tanks
and do not recall any document or conversation on that subject in my years of
interest in
the CB&Q.
Regarding green versus black, Stephen was not all wrong, Q people referred to
non-
stainless, non-aluminum painted passenger equipment as black. For example,
"Number
35 has two black cars today."
For those of you with an interest in a certain book on mail and express, I am
pleased to
announce that the ship sailed from the Port of Hong Kong this morning.
Regards,
Ed DeRouin
