Yes, it is/was for sale. BUT, one has to remember a few things. It
has been rebuilt a few times, and it was originally rebuilt because
it was involved in the Expo Naperville crash. Now...I know the
thing is built like a ... well, with 3 or 4" cement sub-floors, 6
wheel trucks (which if they are roller bearing and in good shape with
good wheel life remaining would be worth almost as much as the asking
price) and good steel sides under the sheathing... it's well
built. But, it has been "round the block" a time or three.
It's still a fine looking car. But if the tread wear is high, and
the brakes need work, and there's work to do on the electrical to get
it back to road worthy status... that $100K is looking a LOT higher
all of the sudden.
Although... it's important to note that there was a SILVER ROUNDUP
too - that's the one that caught fire in Oakland and was replaced by
a WP dome lounge (SILVER CHALET)
Via had a lot of former Zephyr cars in back lots gutted prior to
rebuilding (that in most cases never happened) - SILVER HOSTEL,
SILVER SKY and others are examples.
