Dave,
Early fifties might let you escape CB&Q steam (not sure when the last came off
the Hannibal division) but the Wabash was still running a little steamer into
Keokuk then. Of course, the other three railroads can be added to operations
later.
I would have to check the date for the Rock Island map, but trackage didn't
change much over the years until the BN era.
Aside from the structures/industries you've mentioned along the river, there is
one more north of Hubbingers that I'm still trying to identify. It may have
been Cameron & Sons Coal. South of Hubbingers, there is the Rock Island engine
facilities, a fuel oil dealer, and then three large industries: Midwest
Carbide, Keokuk Steel Casting and Keokuk Electrometals.
Up on the branch through town there is the CB&Q freighhouse, a Swift turkey
packing plant, Keokuk Lumber, and then a few more outside of the town proper.
That should give you a start.
Duncan

Duncan,
I'm planning on the 1950-1953 time period. I want to be able to run
Mark Twain Zephyr (I'll use a Con-Cor Pioneer Zephyr as a stand-in)
and I don't want to have to worry about running steam. At the moment
I'm in the process of developing a track plan. I can figure out some
of the important features and industry locations from Rob's web site,
such as the Union Depot, Rock Island freight depot, Hubingers and
Northestern Seed Co; but I'm not certain which other industries to
represent for this time period. Also what industries were located on
the branch line? Finally, is the Rock Island Map of Keokuk on Rob's
site appropriate for the 50's?
Thanks,
Dave Longman

probably help significantly. Keokuk seems to be an increasingly
popular subject for a model railroad. I've been working on mine now
for 8 or 9 years. Rob's site has been a great source for vintage
photos of structures. Do you have a specific time frame in mind?
