For any of you freight car guys out there, I recall seeing pictures of
frieght cars (can't remember if any were Q) where the railroads took a
friction bearing truck, and simply replaced the wheelsets with a
roller bearing wheelset. The journal box covers were usually removed
and you could see the roller bearings clearly where the old friction
bearings were found.
Did the Q do this as an upgrade to any cars?
Does anyone know how it was done or what modifications to the trucks
had to be done to make it work?
Can it be done today (e.g. if someone got an old Q caboose and wanted
to put roller bearings on it without replacing the entire old friction
bearing truck assembly)?
