I know they can still be used in captive service. I know of one
shortline that is using one for diesel fuel storage. They have an air
operated pump on it to fuel their locos.

What was the last date that riveted tank cars were allowed by the AAR to
be used? Were they banned just for interchange to other railroads, or
banned altogether? Could they be retained by the home road, for use in
company water service?
It seems like a little information always leads to more questions!
