Dale,
I heard the Fs when they first shipped.I wasn't impressed at all. I liked the
handheld remote but not the sound. It sounded like it was emanating from a
Hallmark greeting card. Real tinny and fake, not like a digital recording of
the real 567. My grand-daughters Fisher Price Geotrax F unit had a better
grumble and horn for $15.00. Now there is a starting point for an interresting
kitbash. No expensive DCC, just load it up with 2 AAA batteries and keep the
carpet lint off the tracks. You don't have to clean the rails either.
The Broadway Fs were too hard to hear at Trainfest so I can't make a comment on
those. Too much ambient noise and Lienenkugels drownding out the sound.
Sincerely,

I have a friend that bought some of the new F's with sound. If I
remember correctly, they have MRC sound factory installed. My friend was
not impressed. I have not been over yet to see these or tweak them for
him as he is technically challenged at 90 years old.

According to Athearn's web-site they have announced DCC and sound for
the freight F's. I wouldn't be surprised to see the passenger F3's done
in the future with sound. If they are doing freight, why not passenger??
So far the passenger F3's are only listed as standard analog
locomotives.

I am sure that there are several individuals that have purchased the
Athearn
Genesis F3 passenger engines. Would be nice to get comments on these
engines, especially the paint scheme and accuracy of the model. I have
the
the freight versions and find them to be excellent, both in paint and
accurac. These are also the smoothest running F units around, better
than
many if not all the brass I have seen.
Does anyone know when Athearn will make the F3's with sound, or do we
have
to wait for BLI to come out with their units first?
