Well, I'll be! The Ashland platform brick is marked "PURINGTON BRICK"
("PURINGTON is a shallow arch over "BRICK".) It is 8-1/4" long, 2-3/4"
high and 3-3/4" wide at the ends, tapering to 3-7/8" wide at the center.
Apparently something heavy was set on it while it was still green. There
is no marking on the back. My example is not perfect--one top corner is
chipped, and the surface of the chip is not quite as weathered as the rest
of the brick face. But I cherish it because I know it came from the
Ashland platform. It was in a heap of rubble across the tracks from the
depot.
The one photo I have of Ashland that is clear enough shows the bricks laid
in stretcher bond pattern (straight rows with offset joints).
Best regards,
Randy
