Yes that is true, starting in 1957 the IC leased for the winter NP dome
sleepers, but only the sleepers. The dome coaches the IC used later were bought
from the MP. Both Budd and Pullman dome cars were bought by the IC in the mid
1960's. Those were the domes that had the forward windows blocked off with
steel
plates painted black. I've been told although I've not found documentation
that it was the MP that blocked the windows not the IC. I've seen shots of the
NP
dome sleepers in the IC's Panama Limited (rare), City of Maimi, and City of
New Orleans. I would think that since the Panama Limited was pretty much a
night train the IC wouldn't have used them in the Pan very often.
In the TLC Book, Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Trains Consists and Cars
Vol. 1 a color photo of the "South Wind" shows one of the NP dome sleepers
still
painted in NCL in the consist. The date on the photo is 1965. The same photo
also apears in black and white in the L&N Passenger book.
