I was always told by Q fans that the original CZ cars broke down as 3-2-1, in
other words 3 sets of equipment for the Burlington, 2 for the WP, and 1 for
the DRG&W. This is not the case for all the cars, it works for the Baggage,
Dome/Dorm/Buffet, Diner, and Observation cars. But not for the Dome Coach, 10-6
Pullman, and the 16 Section Pullman. I should use the word Sleeping Car instead
of Pullman..... Also the 3-2-1 worked for the 6-5 Pullman that were bought in
1952. The breakdown for the remaining cars works like this, 2-2-2 for the 16
Section Pullman, 7 Dome Coach for Q, 7 WP, and 4 DRG&W, 7 10-6 Pullman WP, 6 Q,
5 DRG&W, and 1 PRR. There was a total of 67 Budd cars built for the CZ
(1948-49). It worked out for six 11 car train sets with one extra 10-6 Pullman.
Now
in 1952 the three railroads added six 6-5 Pullmans with the 3-2-1 ownership.
At the same time the Burlington ordered extra car for CZ service, one 16
Section Pullman (Silver Cedar), two 10-6 Pullmans (Silver Crag and Silver
Chasm),
and one Observation (Silver Lookout). Also according to Randall's From Zephyr
to
Amtrak, the Burlington added a diner to the CZ pool (Silver Manor) however
Silver Manor as far as I know didn't carry CZ lettering. Rather it was lettered
for the Burlington.

Also remember from 1949-58 the CZ carried the through NYC - San Francisco
Pullman, with only one car being owned by the PRR, a 10-6 Silver Rapids. When
that service was discontinued the car returned and pretty much spent the rest
of
it's service in the Florida trains. Silver Rapids did make it in to Amtrak and
is now in private hands. With the through Pullman Service, NYC leased a 10-6
from the DRG&W. As the through Pullman operated ever other day in the PRR and
NYC. Since the service was daily there had to be foreign Pullmans in the CZ
consist.

Getting back to Silver Chasm and Silver Crag, these two 10-6 Pullmans
differed from the original CZ 10-6's as they didn't have the extra windows for
the
isle side of the double bedrooms. Other than that except possibly for interior
colors they matched the original CZ 10-6 Pullmans. The original CZ 10-6's had
an isle window across from each bedroom door, thus a passenger could open the
door and see out of both sides of the train. BLI isn't offering Silver Crag or
Chasm. If they would we could model the other 1952 10-6 Pullmans the
Burlington bought for service in the American Royal and Blackhawk.

The CZ always had an interesting consist. You were never sure what would show
up in the train, DRG&W flat top coaches, Pullmans from the PRR, NYC, IC, UP,
SP, ACL, GN, C&O, and others.

Hope this helps!
