If NWSL does not have a direct replacement gear for the Oriental 2-8-
2, another alternate is to have them custom make one for you. You
will need to send them the damaged gear and they can usually
duplicate it in either brass or plastic as appropriate. We have had
this done several times and did not find the cost to be prohibitive
especially if this is a common problem where the cost can be spread
over several models. There is usually a setup charge (I think about
$40-50) and then a cost per gear that is consistant with their
normally stocked gears. They even sent us the extra machined but
uncut gear stock so that more gears could be cut off later if needed.
This alternative although a bit more costly than replacing the
gearbox and driver gear can be a lot easier and avoid any driver re-
quartering problems.
The NWSL folks are great to work with. A direct telephone call used
to work much better than an email.
