I think it had something to do with the routes travelled...I saw auto-racks
all they way up through 1980 or so on the K-line (I'm taking a guess on the
years). Most of them did have side screens. However, farm kids are usually
much less likely to take a pot shot at passing new cars...A) we were more in
envy of what was going by, B) they were usually moving at a pretty good clip
and C) our dads would have given us a good whoopin' for throwing rocks at
new cars... ;)
