Duncan,
Hallmark made the engine in 1982. The detail was average for brass of
the period, the running characteristics were typical for Hallmark at
that time meaning slow and noisy. 

I replaced the front truck and gear tower with one from a company named
E&P (no longer around) and it now runs fine.
