I believe that the "uphill" run for the DZ was about October 25th or so 1936.

If you have Al Holck's book HUB OF BURLINGTON LINES WEST there are copies of 
all the paperwork ie advance instructions to each terminal and division as to 
how the train was to be handled. This included instructions that train 
orders were only to be handed up on the right hand (engineer's side).
