Marshall and Others: Normally, only the engineer and fireman were in the cab on passenger trains. The brakemen, in uniform, were in the cars. A baggageman may have been in the baggage car to work the car and sort company mail. Do you recall that an operator prepared three copies of 19's for a passenger train. One for the engineer, one for the conductor, and one for the baggageman, or picked up by the flagman (rear brakeman). Ed DeRouin |
