There were only five consists of NCL in the era being discussed. Take noon 
CST, for example. There would be a WB NCL that had just left Chicago, a 
second WB in the middle of Montana, and a third that had arrived in Seattle 
that AM. Then there was an EB in Montana, and an EB near Savanna, 
Illinois. Each set of equipment had about 21 hours in Chicago, but a short 
turn on the west end.

I'd have to do some digging to answer the last parts of your questions.
