I'm not sure 90 was EVER an authorized speed on the East End however, I believe
the key word here is AUTHORIZED.
When the "suggestions" became more rigorously enforced the "spots" (a physical
location), used by Engineer's to begin braking for anticipated stops, all
changed, - - - DRASTICALLY.

Steve:
I have No doubt that the sprint occurred. We know the difference between
reality and the suggestions, er, speed restrictions printed in the
special instructions......

limits. Sorry 'bout the confusion. I did not intend to cast any doubts upon
your story.
