There is a slide on eBay of CB&Q 5632 at Savanna on a fan trip in 1961 (eBay says it is 9-61 and I have several other photos dated the same month but from different angles, so this is probably the 09

Tom: Without seeing the whole arrangement of the sanding facility this is mostly speculation, but here goes. My Guess is that it is an air tank for supplying dry air to the sand delivery system. See
