Not exactly what yo are asking for but from the merger into the mid 1970s there was some overlap of unit numbers with 2 or more of the former RRs having units with the same number. This is a problem

That happened again with the BNSF merger. One solution someone found was to assign both units to the same train. The example I remember being noted in Trains was 4004 and 4004. They were an ATSF GP50
