On the return leg eastbound the GS4 with the freedom train ran into Chicago on the racetrack. I was commuting from Belmont at the time and decided to take a later train than normal to catch the train

Charlie, I thought the Freedom Train arrived in Chicago from the east behind the T1; it left Chicago westbound behind 4449. IIRC, 4449 arrived from the west running light and had a crossing encounter

EMD was a sponsor of the AFT. Might of had something to do with it. I understand Jack Wheelihan was employed by EMD and assigned to 4449 or the AFT. He became part of the "permanent" crew of 4449. Da
