A post-script to Tom Mack's info below, if photos are of interest to you, the BRHS photo system's powerful new Fright Car Search (featured in Zephyr 102) will retrieve 94 photos of the HC-1 to HC-1D class freight cars.

CB&Q 181550 is actually part of the 180000-182749 HC-1 series of 1958 cubic foot covered hoppers, not 180000-189999 which included other sizes of LO covered hoppers and even the early HT-5B twin open top hoppers series 189000-189649 built in 1945.
 
The HC-1 series cars were built from 1940 to 1969 as follows:

So 181550 is the first HC-1B series 181550-181899 which were built at Havelock in 1958.
 
I show two different HC-1B cars (181604 and 181845) in wheel reports carrying CLAY (bentonite) to Reserve Mining and Erie Mining respectively in Minnesota on 6-4-1966 on CB&Q train 97. On 12-18-1967 CB&Q HC-1B 181663 was empty heading to Oregon, IL  for sand loading on train 73. According to the 1968 CB&Q Equipment Distribution Manual Section 500 page 7 this car was designated "S" - Silica Loading Only.
