Mark,

Thank you!  I’m glad you enjoyed the newest video.

For all questions C&S, I always refer to Hol Wagner’s “The Colorado Road”.

Page 411 has the answer to your C&S questions:  Standard gauge freight steam engines were lettered in “yellow paint”, while passenger steam engines were “gold leaf”.  Looks like aluminum as a color was discontinued on standard gauge engines in 1928.

I used Microscale Decal set #87-1130 when I numbered my engines, beginning 30 years ago.

I kitbashed my C&S cabooses from Roundhouse kits to get the correct window configuration.  I wrote an article about it in the June 2003 issue of Model Railroading.

For my ATSF cabooses, I followed an Andy Sperandeo article in the September 1991 Model Railroader, detailing two Athearn kits.  I didn’t worry about the numbers, but I put in working markers as I described in my MRing article – being sure to get the marker colors correct for the ATSF (red and YELLOW).

My ATSF runs are only visible for about 10 feet until they spiral down to staging in South Denver.  Not the case for you on the Joint Line.

I hope that helps.

Jim

Greetings Jim,

Episode #13 is a masterful production. Thank you!

Some questions (non urgent) if I may, about your prototype in 1958:

Paintwork on the C&S steam engines.

Is the number on the cab exterior “imitation gold”?

Paintwork on the C&S steam switch engines.

Is the number on the cab exterior “imitation gold”?

And the “C&S over AT&SF” in aluminium?

 C&S way cars

Which models do you use for the way cars?

 AT&SF way cars

One of the problems I have had is trying to work out which way cars were used on the Joint Line in 1951 (my modelling period).

So far, I have come up with 1410 and 1411 as strong possibilities.

Lots of photos on the head end of the trains but very little on the rear end.

Once again, many thanks for keeping the C&S alive.

Mark

Here is the latest operations-oriented video on the HO scale Colorado & Southern Ry , “Class Yard Foreman”, episode 13.

https://youtu.be/9rMT5-wgwb4

Twenty-four trains begin or end their journeys in Denver ’s Rice Yard every day.  And each of those trains is built or taken apart by the Class Yard Foreman.  When his boss -- the Yardmaster -- calls, he better have the next scheduled train ready to go!

This is the most popular job at C&S Northern Division operating sessions – it’s usually the first one selected.  And it's easy to see why…

I hope you enjoy it!

Please watch, like and subscribe!  Thanks.
