In our travels and my time with C&NW & meat packers as a Safety Mgr, I can attest that indeed unlike all other RR's, the Q (including post-BN usage) used old 40' boxcars for hide service but unlike the others, had them brought in thru the car doors rather than dropped thru hatches.  Saw them (& have my own slides) at Grand Island, NE (JBS Packing ex-Swift) & Sioux City, IA (Swift).  This was not a problem as they could be packed in more tightly via forklift @ dock or track level as opposed to getting above the car roofs & dropping them in.  On one occasion I saw an old Q stock car not only used for used tie loading but also for hides.  In any case, they were & are very smelly!  (same as the 'gut' cars in old open 40' gons.  If modeling the latter, maybe use undiluted tomato soup?)   🙂    Gerald
