Tom -- Please take another look at my previous reply; the Pioneer Zephyr made its last runs in and out of Kansas City Union Station on April 30, 1940. Afterward, the closest it came to Kansas City was St. Joseph. Bill

From what you've said, it looks like the Pioneer Zephyr stopped going into KC about 1950 when the accident with the truck occurred. Sounds like the PZ didn't make it back to KCUS after that and instead operated as a local around St Joseph but didn't go into KC anymore.
