Tom,
Decades ago in a different modeling standards time period I used Athearn shake a box ATSF tanks, stripped, painted and decaled in the 232000 series. Not close but they gave the right impression.
I know you didn’t ask but here it comes anyway. In 1973 when I spent a few months on the night Rochelle job these tanks were still in service and being loaded at Standard Oil. We would pull them in one of the early evening moves and set them to the west end of the storage track for westbound pickup. They went to Savanna and left there the next day or day after headed to Galesburg.
One night we pulled the track and one tank was leaking at the riveted head. It sat outside the gate for a couple nights dripping away until the Rockford mechanical truck Caulked the rivet and then it went on its way to Galesburg. The Milwaukee road was spotting their leased UTLX welded tanks on the other track.
One of my favorite Conductors (Lew Peshia) that I “broke for”,on and off for a few years told about tank cars loading at the Rochelle Standard Oil terminal and going all over to be delivered on way freights to bulk oil dealers. If I am remembering correctly he said it took about a week from Rochelle to get to the dealer at Walnut,IL as an example. He worked the “Moonlight Job” on the around the horn run for years so he would have known.

Has anyone found a good stand-in or a kitbashed model for the CB&Q diesel service tank cars used to fill the massive diesel storage tank at Galesburg? Here are some photos of the 232xxx series cars:
I know the Athearn tank car is good for the larger, later CB&Q diesel service tank cars, and I have several of them, but I am looking to model these earlier riveted cars with the large domes.
