In addition to Steves comments I would add that any station “other tracks” could be any of the following depending on the size of town and businesses located there: a grain elevator track,one for a lumber yard, coal dealer,house track behind the depot,etc,etc.

I would suggest that the siding was for operations, meeting and passing trains with the "Other Tracks" the brick yard.  The brick yard might store a couple cars while it was loading.  Due to weight of bricks might need more than one car for some contracts.
