Scott,

I have a consist (attached) of a train of coal from Galesbug to Inland Steel near Chicago. It was a 109 car train. In the train were cars from:

SLSF, CNJ, NYC, WM, PRR, B&LE, P&LE, CGW, RI, ACL, D&RGW, N&W, CI, RDG, BWC, T&P, KGB, EJ&E, and ATSF.

Considering there is D&RGW car in the consist, I do not think one could rule out that a C&S hopper occasionally wandered east. It would be rare though.

So I have done some more thinking about this topic and the cars offered and realized I never really answered the main question that was presented.  But first I must ask another question, where the c&s cars ever mixed in with the q cars running out of southern Illinois?  If not where did they operate or where trains of Colorado coal brought east in unit trains or small car blocks?  If they stayed on the C&S in unit train service one must look at the amount of modelers that would be interested in such a car for a regional railroad that disappeared for the most part about 54 years ago.  The easiest and cheapest version of the challenger imports 2-10-2 to find is the c&s version.  I believe most of the Q modelers I have met generally model the lines east.  The conclusion I have come to is that the only car worth buying out of all these offered new run broadways are the orange ones as they will stick out in a train of mineral red and Chinese red and draw in someone’s eye thus a better detailed car would be nice.
