Hello Phil and group. There was what they now call a control point, at Mile post 261.4 of the Galesburg to Quincy line and it was called Carthage Jct. There are photos of the CTC diagrams and another of the dispatchers CTC Board that both show that point as "Carthage Jct". They are on pages 386 and 387 of the Quincy Branch book. I remember that if you got an approach signal at MP 260.1 you had to stop short of 5th or 6th street and have the brakeman walk north on the street until he could see the absolute signal. This was all after the new Mississippi River bridge was constructed. Bud Linroth.

Hi Thomas,
Carthage Junction (also known as Illinois Jct.) is located at the eastern end of the Q’s Mississippi River bridge, across the river from Burlington, Iowa. From the research I’ve done on the Burlington area, this junction was interlocked early and later by CTC, both methods controlled by the operators at Wood Tower in Burlington.
I’ve attached an alignment chart showing the Jct. and a photo from the Barringer collection that shows the only known building and one of the Massey concrete instrument houses there.

Hello,
I'm in search of pictures and information about Carthage Junction, Illinois; specifically, any railroad structures that stood there such as a depot and/or tower.
Thanks, Thomas _._,_._,_
