Thank you Richard! And here is me thinking the reefers, for perhaps carrying beverages, were ordered not long after the end of Prohibition! The C&S cars in fact came came from General American in April of 1923. I will hunt up a copy of BRHS Burlington Bulletin No. 12. Mark

As I understand it, the C&S (CX) and FW&D (FWDX) reefers were leased to BREX. BREX was part of the Fruit Growers Express consortium (FGEX, plus Western Fruit Express (WFEX) , BREX, and National Car Company (NX)). Cars of the consortium were pooled as I understand it.
Typical loads originating on the C&S included potatoes, onions, cucumbers, tree fruits, and from one of the C&S's largest shippers, Coors beer.
In 1950 the reefers would have had yellow sides and boxcar red ends and roofs. Lettering was black. My scanner isn't working so I can't give a diagram.
The BRHS Burlington Bulletin No. 12 has all the details.

The Colorado and Southern had a modest fleet of reefers; some
200 in the 50050 – 50249 series.
There were 199 live cars in January 1940 indicating the cars
were built in the late 1930s.
By late 1950 the number had reduced to 160 live cars.
The Jan 1951 ORER states that “Cars in the 50050 – 50249 series
are owned by the Colorado and Southern Ry. Co. and operated by the owner through B.R.E.X. as
Agents (not lessees).”
The Fort Worth & Denver City had, originally, 100 such
reefers.
Both C&S and FW&DC reefers were also listed
in the Jan 1951 ORER listing for the BREX.
Were these cars used in a Q system wide pool? Or typically only on the
C&S/ FW&DC?
What were the typical loads?
How were the cars painted and lettered in 1950?
