Bryan --
Whether or not 184 and 187 received shadow-lining I cannot say, but as of January 1961, both wore solid aluminum paint. No. 183 was renumbered 251151 in June 1953, presumably without having previously received the SSS treatment.

If I recall correctly, it was Bill Schultz that indicated that 183, 184 and 187 were painted in SSS. Perhaps he can weigh in on this. I also have this report from 1965, but it does not indicate any paint schemes within. My copies are from the BRHS Archives, so perhaps they have other years that may indicate the paint schemes in question.
I have a particular interest in the DA-6 cars as I am modeling at Q special using a consist from BB36 that included DA-6 181. I ended up purchasing a DA-6 finished as C&S 706 (in silver) and was hoping I could just renumber it to 181, but discovered later this was not one of the DA-6s that received silver treatment.

Following on from the list I posted of simulated stainless steel and aluminum painted equipment, I have checked through it to validate the data, and the new list is attached.
My thanks to Hol for assistance with the C&S and FW&D equipment. For details of the SSS treatment, look at Burlington Bulletin 15.
Many of the SSS cars were later repainted or allowed to fade, so the aluminum paint designation may be by default. No evidence has been found of DA-6 dining cars 183, 184 and 187 being given either of these treatments nor DA-5 dining car 172. Office car 95 was not given a coat of aluminum paint until after it had been renumbered 251163 for MoW service, and no photo has been found of sleeper 666 Missouri Tower. Can anyone assist with these? There is a photo of generator-coach 7202 wearing a BN emblem on page 318 of Passenger Car Photos. I’m presuming that, as it has not been renumbered, the aluminum paint is of CB&Q origin. Were 7200 and 7204-7205 similarly painted? CRI&P’s Rocket Tower and Cedar Rapids may have been repainted for use with the Zephyr-Rocket but I have not included these. The attached photo was labelled as dining car 189 but the number is not visible. Does anyone have a better copy of this photo to confirm a number for this car?
