Let me give more details from GNRHS Reference Sheet No. 227:

The consist list has

Baggage car: storage mail, St. Paul to Spokane (westbound)
RPO-storage mail car, St. Paul to Seattle
Baggage car: storage mail, Chicago to Seattle (westbound)
Seattle to St. Paul (eastbound) (did not depart Seattle Sat/Sun)

Then the text notes that the Spokane car came from Chicago via Milwaukee on the Morning Hiawatha (several pages later, it notes that a great deal of mail was transloaded between this car and the SP&S Streamliner's Spokane-Portland RPO-storage car at Spokane). The next paragraph says "Notice also that the RPO-storage mail car was assigned between St.Paul and Seattle in both directions. The Burlington Route operated its own stainless-steel RPO-storage mail car along with its own E Series diesel locomotives in both directions between Chicago and St.Paul. This was done in order to provide more time in St.Paul for the handling of mail by the RPO crew assigned between St.Paul and Minot." This seems to imply that the Q ran its RPO both ways on the Builder, but given the author's writing style, I can see where maybe he's referring to the RPOs being run on other trains, earlier in the day.

At any rate, I appreciate the advice on the Walthers RPO.

Is there a readily available, reasonably accurate HO scale Q RPO that would be appropriate for the Chicago - St. Paul leg of the Empire Builder in the 1955-60 era? I just learned that the GN's RPO didn't go to Chicago, so I need a Q car if I run the train with my Q E units. Also, did the Q add its own storage mail baggage car ahead of its RPO? The GNRHS reference sheet doesn't mention it, but I thought I'd ask. If so, would a shadow-lined Havelock be appropriate?
