Here are comparison views of two versions of U28C and a genuine C&S U30C. I suspect the Atlas unit is similar to the UP 2805.  Jim Sandrin

Sorry Guys,

From:  Trainorders Mon Apr 06, 2009

Sorry Robert, I beg to differ. The unit in question is former Detroit Edison U30C #011, which was moved to Grandview, MO to be scrapped. Two ambitious volunteers spent their own time and money to do a quick cosmetic restoration of the unit into Burlington colors AND correct details and then do a photo shoot before it was scrapped. There was extensive discussion on Trainorders and while many thought it was a photoshop hoax, the restorers supplied multiple pictures of the unit in various stages of restoration, day and night photos from the photo shoot, and close-ups of how various details such as the axle alternators were replicated to match the Burlington prototype. All the critics and skeptics appeared to be convinced, and at least one third-party eyewitness to the subsequent scrapping corroborated the fact that DE #011 was scrapped in Burlington Chinese Red. It's an amazing story of a labor of love by a few Burlington fans who didn't care that it was only temporary

Looks good though,

Thanks Jim! From what I have learned, even since writing the message, the C&S U30C units were definitely not phase I.

The Q however had U28C's, but they were quite different in body details and trucks (more like U25C's). Interesting, looks like the Atlas phase I units are inappropriate for either.

  Thank you!

Chris

The Phase I U30B/C  used the late U28 car body.  The Phase 2 had a wider radiator section and a flared cowling between the engine room and the radiator. Here are similar shots of the two versions as a comparison.  Jim Sandrin

Hey all...I know the Q proper did not own any U30C's, but C&S owned four units.

Atlas is releasing the U30C phase I soon...might anyone here offer conjecture as to what a "phase I" might be, as opposed to other phases of the same locomotive? Many thanks!
