Best I can say is I've attended Metra board meetings and have had meetings
with Metra and Pace staff in that building. The space Pace is leasing is
actually light and airy looking as they really took advantage of the
windows. The Metra space was built out 40 years ago, pre-Metra, with the
formation of NIRC to receive the assets of the bankrupt Rock Island. Does
that count as nostalgia as it's been there so long?

The newly-hired railroad administrative staff took that office space to
physically separate themselves from Charlie Swibel and the mess at the
Marina City office building that RTA occupied due to clout.

What I don't recall is the mid 1970s transformation of the building. Was BN
gradually transferring headquarters staff to St. Paul, or did they
eliminate a major amount of office space at once?

The lobby was rebuilt, I guess in the 1970s, when they wanted to compete for
tenants.

NIRC was a tenant at first, then bought the property later. But they left a
lot of the building unrebuilt and unoccupied for decades.
