To all:

I have moved forward on the "served industries" task using the data on this BRHS web page http://www.burlingtonroute.org/Qrailroad/history/industries_served.php
There are 788 industries listed there. I am about three hours away from incorporating these industries into the station detail records on the 'Q' Rail Network project I am working on.

If upon examining this web page (linked above) you see errors and omission that your mentioned sources could improve upon, then please contact me directly.
I see some folks mentioning freight tariffs (freight rates) but I have no need in this project for them. I spent the last 35 years at BN/BNSF as a systems developer working at publishing freight rates, so I know my freight tariffs.

My only tariff search currently is for 'CB&Q mileage tariffs' which were just published books containing the miles between stations, like a Rand McNally atlas without the map. No rates, no industries.
Thanks everyone for your help and interest.  Keep the suggestions coming, and as "Q" experts, let this old computer guy know what you think of this 'Q Rail Network' project.

Now I have to get back to work...

Doug,

The only one I've ever seen referred to was something in the mid-late 1930s. One of the Bulletins had an ad for Dick's Quincy Beer pulled from it.

Now there could be some internal documents or freight switching tariffs for specific locations that contain a listing of industries. I have a 1962 PRR freight tariff for Philadephia that lists industries, what railroad served them, and their general business. I offered this to Ted for him to reprint, but he felt it was too small, conflicted with another PRR guide he has available, and is of limited interest to reprint (which as I've thought about it he is right). Some of these might reside in the BRHS archives or in boxes to be processed. As you know, you have to have an idea what what you are looking for.

The other thing is that the area covered by a tariff might change over time. For example the Chicago Switching District tariff. Ted offers two tariffs for the Chicago Switching District - 1956 and 1967. The BRHS archives offered a 1959 version. By 1967, the Chicago Switching Tariff has expanded to include everything west to Naperville on the CB&Q which the previous tariffs did not. The Switching Tariffs list customers alphabetically and the 1967 tariff is 136 pages long.

If Jack is interested, I can pull the CB&Q industries out of the 1967 tariff and put them in a spreadsheet for him to post/use. It will take a few hours.

Did the Q ever publish Shippers Guides or Directory of Industries, like the ones sold by Rails Unlimited? http://railsunlimited.ribbonrail.com/Books/shippers.html Ted does not have any listed on his website, though I does have GN and NP ones, other Hill Lines railroads.
