Jack and All-

As most of you know I am doing deep research on the Aurora-Chicago service of the CB&Q and predecessor companies which will become a e-book available to the BRHS Membership and historical societies and libraries in suburban territory.

I don’t have any tariffs save two which I found in newspapers….1866 that shows the cost of Commutation Tickets Chicago-Aurora and Batavia and 1873 which are general passenger tariffs including Chicago-Aurora and Batavia and the rest of the 1873 system.

One of the holes in the historical record is when stations were established and discontinued on the East End.   Suburban Tariffs could shed some light on this but I just recently stumbled on this as a technique and as my research trips are severely curtailed and many institutions haven’t let their employees back in the stacks yet I am looking for other ways to get the information.

So if anyone has East End Tariffs I would like to know about them.  There apparently also were Suburban Employee Timetables which would also be valuable if anyone has copies of any.

Thanks,

Charlie Vlk

Subject: [CBQ] CB&Q Mileage Tariff from the 1960's

I am working on a BRHS web site project to document the CB&Q's rail network as of the late 1960's. This will include a station search (1,733 stations) with map location, station information such as photos, track profile, operating division and more..., and line segments (260 segments) which will show a map, list stations in order on each segment, track profiles for that segment and more, and a station or segment search using a map feature to get you to the stations.

To aid me in this I have copies of the Car Accounting Station Numbers book of 1968 which has all of the stations and their FSAC  numbers, the OPSL or Open and Prepaid Station book which is the rail industry wide list of active freight stations, which gives me OPSL station numbers, the Official Railroad Guide, a 1963 3x2 foot 'Q' map which I have digitized, and a Rand McNally Railroad Atlas which I have also digitized.

What I don't have and am looking for is a CB&Q Mileage Tariff from the late 1960's.  If you have one, know where I can get one, I would be interesting in purchasing or borrowing it.

While this project is still underdevelopment, you may view what is available so far by going to the BRHS website's Members Only area and look for Q Rail Network on the menu.

Thanks,
Jack Schroeder
