Easter Sunday 2020

Alan - If you wanted to "back date" your way car to its late B&MR or early CB&Q era, this issue of the BRHS Bulletin would help you to do such. If you have wood working experience, or have a competent carpenter, you could add the signal lamp side pockets.  Good copies of oil lanterns could be fabricated by a tin smith or metal shop to fit the pockets.

Since your way car now has a steel frame, it wouldn't be possible to replicate the original underside storage boxes. But, period lighting would be a possibility. I highly recommend that you join the BRHS.  You could learn so much MORE about the B&MR and CB&Q, plus stay in regular contact with deeply interested historians. Best Easter Wishes - Louis

Alan,

As a follow up to my earlier message, I found the article on the corner marker light pockets, used on early way cars. It is the first article in the recent BRHS Bulletin no. 59, by Al Hoffman. It is titled “Early Train Safety Lighting on the Q”. There are drawings of the lanterns that went into the pockets along with a good description of the various aspect indications that were used in the early days. It is a well done article about seldom discussed part of early day railroading on the Q. It is worth the read.
