I'm a late 1960s GB&W modeler first and foremost, but I've always been fond of the CB&Q's Chinese red paint scheme (it's my second-favorite red-and-gray paint scheme [wink]) — plus it was the GB&W's primary interchange partner on the west end of the railroad.  I've finally reached a point where I've got a modest GB&W model fleet and am thinking of perhaps adding a CB&Q lash-up to give a little more variety when I operate at my train club ... so I'm doing a little researching.
Mark,

I model 1965-70 CB&Q from Chicago to the Twin Cities. I have compiled a list of all train consists I can find in books and on the web of trains during that time period. I will upload the latest copy to the site soon.

In a nutshell, I have photographically confirmed the following SD24's running between Chicago and the Twin Cities between 1965 and 1970 (merger)

500, 502, 503, 504, 505,506, 507, 508, 513, 514, 515. That's 11 units comprising 69% of the SD24 fleet. Considering that these are just the photos we have, a small percentage of the trains that ran during those 5+ years, I think we can safely say that all the SD24's ran during that time. Since the new Atlas run is for CB&Q 508 and 515, if you buy either of them they care confirmed as running between Chicago and the Twin Cities.

Here are some consist highlights:

July 1966: CB&Q 504 SD24 leading a Q GP35, Q GP30, and two new GN U28B's being delivered

May 6, 1965: Q 945 GP30, Q GP35, Q SD24

March 1966: Q 941 GP30, Q 513 SD24, Q GP35

February 27, 1967: Q 967 GP30, Q 102 U25B, Q SD24

August 1966: Q 512 SD24, Q 943 GP30, Q 500 SD24  (an SD24 sandwich)

June 1968: Q 514 SD24, Q 941 GP30, Q 988 GP35, Q 908 GP20
(You can't get a much better mix of GP's with an SD24 unless you add a Q GP40!)

February 1967 Q 512 SD24, Q 504 SD24, Q 511 SD24

As for the new Atlas units, here is what I have:

Unknown date in 1969: Q 500 SD24, Q GP40, Q508 SD24 (the new Atlas unit), Q 465 U23C were all at the Savanna, IL service facility, on three separate tracks

July 1, 1969: Q 982 GP35, Q 515 SD24 (the new Atlas unit), EL 2572 GP35, EL 2458 C-425
This is a great lashup, shot in St. Paul during the Q-EL pooling. I want to model this consist myself!

I hope this help.
