Further to my recent message concerning D-1 1451, lister Bob Campbell did some 
additional research and according to Bernard Corbin’s Steam Locomotives of the 
Burlington Route, almost all of the D1 2-8-0s, about 56, were converted to 
0-6-0s between 1900 and 1903. They were classed as G4, not G3. Following 
rebuild, they retained their existing road number until the general renumbering 
in 1904. At that time, they were all renumbered into the 1600 series with 1451 
becoming 1631. While a number of the G4s do not have disposition dates, 
including the 1631, those that do, all were retired during the early 1930s 
except for 1650, that Louis Zadnichek mentioned yesterday which survived until 
1952 and was used to access Sylvan Island on the Mississippi. I apologize for 
the confusion.
