Dave - Years ago, I saw an image of 1650 taken while it was crossing the span.  Can't remember now where I saw it.... May be I'll "rediscover" the image in the future.  If that span could "talk," I bet it would have some stories to tell. Thanks - Louis

Louis,

Thanks for sending the image!  I have placed it in my Burlington Bridge folder to add to my Burlington Bridge Clinic.

Dave - I've attached an image of CB&Q Class G-4-A No. 1650 taken at Moline, IL, in August 1931.  1650 rolled over the span to switch industries on Sylvan Island. As spindly as the span was, we can see why light weight 1650 was kept in service years after all its sisters had been retired. Best Regards - Louis

Speaking of the old single track bridge, pieces of it survive in Moline as the access to Sylvan Island.

Does anyone have a photo of the old railroad truss bridge that spanned the Mississippi River from Illinois into Burlington? Also,  was it a single track  or double track bridge?

I have been told that my Great Grandfather engineered the first train across the bridge!
