Thanks Louis...I'll place that matter on my  "to do" list for future reference.

Pete - The next time you're in the Moline area, you can walk across the bridge span to Sylvan Island that your great-grandfather used to run over when it was originally located at Burlington:

Another point of Q trivia with this bridge span, the last Class G-4-A 0-6-0 type No. 1650 was assigned to Moline to switch the steel plant on Sylvan Island. 1650 was kept in service due to its relatively light weight needed to safely cross the ancient span. 1650 was finally retired and scrapped in March 1952.

From Charlie's post, I never knew before that some of the 1868 spans ended-up being reused on the Laramie Avenue viaduct in Cicero.  Yes indeed, the ever frugal Q wasted nothing if it could be repurposed for another use elsewhere on the system - Louis

Speaking of the old single track bridge, pieces of it survive in Moline as the access to Sylvan Island.

Does anyone have a photo of the old railroad truss bridge that spanned the Mississippi River from Illinois into Burlington? Also,  was it a single track  or double track bridge?

I have been told that my Great Grandfather engineered the first train across the bridge!
