Hudson - A very remarkable image. I've cleaned-up, enhanced and attached below. The name of the transfer boat is William Osborn. I can't make out the lettering above the name on the paddle box. I did some research on the Internet and found there was such a named steam river ferry, but well south operating back and forth across the Missouri River at Atchison, KS, at a much earlier date. It could be the same boat that has been extensively remodeled to carry railroad cars. Such river ferry/transfer boats operating in fresh water unless sunk by a snag or burned in a fire could last a very long time. However, the locomotive on deck with the unusual dome arrangement looks like no CB&Q locomotive that I've ever seen. Any guesses as to what railroad this ancient locomotive might've belonged to? - Louis
