The Burlington had a small navy of power boats, Tugs and the attached steam boat.
Once the double track along the Mississippi was finished the steam boat went south to move ties from the waterways of middle states to Paducah for moverment to the Tie Plant in Galesburg

I don’t have the full history but the CB&Q did have a dredge built at Dubuque Boat and Boiler Company. It was used to dredge the river to build up the roadbed for a second track between Savanah and St. Paul.
The 1911 “Railway Age Gazette” had an article on the dredge. See below.

At the museum that I volunteer at they receive a magazine called the S & D Reflector which is about river operations. This week I was looking at the September 2019 as they are doing stories on the Dubuque Boat and Boiler Company. I was really surprised when they were writing about a a fire the boat company suffered on April 20,1913. There is a photo in which CB&Q dredge #20 and CB&Q harbor boat are pictured. The dredge looks to be tied up but the boat is moving. Does anybody have any history on these vessels? I am trying to speculate as to why a dredge was here. The bridge should already be here. Would it possibly have been used to dredge for possible double tracking along the river?
If I have my locations correct the CB&Q freighthouse was along side the boatworks.
