Group - Attached is an undated image of Class G-10 0-6-0 No. 562 at an unknown engine terminal. Does anyone know that the apparatus in the foreground is and what it was used for? The apparatus consisted of two air reservoirs (one small to left and one large to right) that look to be connected. The tank to the right looks to have a pressure valve on its far end. Both tanks look to be connected to an air hose that goes off image to the left. All the more intriguing, there looks to be some kind of valve (may be an old injector?) above the small tank that a hose comes off from and travels up the pole along side. The hose is dangling high above the 562.
I first thought that may be this apparatus was a primitive air powered force feed lubrication system with the small tank holding lubricant and the large tank compressed air, but there's nothing to lubricate on top a locomotive except the bell. Another idea is that the apparatus was some kind of air powered cleaning device with solvent in the small tank and compressed air in the large tank. That might explain the hose hanging over the locomotive. I'd like to hear any ideas from Group members on what this apparatus was. I've never seen anything like it before.
