Dave - Since the photograph was black/white and the flags photographed "dark," I'd be more inclined to say the flags were green for second section, rather than white for extra. Sometimes it's hard to tell what the true colors are in these old black/white images. Attached is another "before wreck" image of 9910A. The image is unidentified as to location or date. Group - Since you've seen the "after" photograph of the altered headlight on 9910A, attached below is a "before" photograph showing the headlight prior to the Naperville wreck.
The "after" photograph shows 9910A Silver Speed powering the Twin Cities Zephyr at Savanna, IL, in 1948. The "before" photograph was taken in 1940 at an unknown location.
