What are the plans for availability if unable to attend Trainfest? thanks Sent: Mon, Mar 11, 2019 2:42 pm
Subject: Re: [CBQ] What Color is it? The link to the N scale MicroTrains model that Rupert shared clearly demonstrates that they missed the color match completely! Sneak preview…Plans are in the works to have the 37000 as the 2019 Trainfest model, both in HO and N, but painted in the correct colors per the attached color photograph. As you may know, the Burlington will be the featured railroad at this year‘s Trainfest and the BRHS will be there in full force!

In 1954, 100 cars had their Evans auto loaders removed and auxiliary doors sealed and, between 1956 and 1962, the remaining cars were similarly rebuilt, at which point the first digit was removed from the number and they were reclassified as XM. The line of brown paint above “CB&Q” on the side covers up the word “Automobile”.
There are references to, and photos of, 37000, the XM-32A painted green as the 100,000th freight car to be built with unit trucks, in Burlington Bulletin 7 page 12 and Zephyr 38 page 8. This car was displayed at the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1948. There is no mention in either reference to other cars being painted green at the same time. Walthers had a model of 37000 at https://www.walthers.com/aar-1944-40-boxcar-chicago-burlington-quincy-green-w-quot-100-000th-car-w-unit-trucks-quot-stenci Not sure how accurate the model was but the stencil at the top left appears to have the same overall appearance / shape as the ones in the photos but with legible wording “This is the 100,000th freight car to be equipped with unit trucks”. campaign for the trucks. I forget the truck type.
