In my collection I have the office log book for the Montgomery stock yards covering a number of years in the mid 60s. Car numbers, heads of cattle and sheep arriving are recorded along with number down or dead, etc. there's also a cash ledger. The names listed by Fred and steve are listed in the log repeatedly.

Maybe someday we can use this in an article.

Steve, if you've got anything on the Q cement plant at the the west end of the Montgomery yards run it past Dave "real soon" as it's mentioned in a soon to be printed article. Might make a nice side bar to a visual being used.

Weritheimer Cattle Co. was a company with an office in South St. Paul.  The owner had a ranch in Utica Mt.  there was also an office at Montgomery
They would ship feeder cattle into Montgomery and those that did not sell right away they would feed.  They leased the Northwest barn and the north end of the east barn was common ground while the west end of the east barn was CB&Q.   There was a auction ring in the Northwest barn along with the office but by the time I worked there starting in '67 no sales in the ring.  The barn west of the Elevator was leased by Henry Steele who also sold feeders.  Monier feed sheep and lambs in the center of the stockyard at Montgomery for slaughter in Chicago.
Worked there my senior year in High School until I went to Army in 69

A friend of mine who works for the BNSF and deals with tracking locations and mileages asked me about a siding or spur called Wertheimer in Minnesota on the former Q that from what he can figure ran from current day mileposts 417.7 to 419.2.  It no longer exists, but for some reason is still in the BNSF computer system. Being a curious fellow he just wants to know what it was about, and who it was named after. The only thing I can find is a reference in a "Model Railroader” forum to a “Wertheimer spur” where cattle were unloaded. Can anyone confirm this?
