Guys, Ive told this true incident to folks who have experienced Mr Harrison in person while at CN,BN,CP,ETC. They all agree it is in keeping with his true form. When I told the Story at CN,HQ in Montreal I got a lot of smiles and nods and then bunches of CN Hunter stories.
About three weeks ago a customer of mine pretty much summed up the "precision railroading as administered by EHH.Slash,burn,pillage to make the numbers work. Then After you're gone the survivors start putting things back together but a lot of what Hunter terms "unwanted or unprofitable" is lost for ever. You're seeing it right now on CSX with scrap. At CP it was anything short haul like aggregates,etc,etc. My customer went on to say he didn't know a single professional railroader who respected the man.
My story is twice as long as above and I can't put it on the list because:1)it's off topic and 2)while absolutely true would be quite embarrassing to someone and I don't care to Be a defendant in a libel lawsuit.
Let's just say it was pretty intense between a newly promoted Condr. And a Division Supt. Bent on implementing his "precision railroading". What I can share is if I had been an exempt employee instead of a scheduled one protected union agreements my railroad career would have ended that morning.

This topic seems to generate a LOT of interest and posting from the
group. I say tell us of the encounter right here as long as we're
on the edge of our seats anyway. If we were talking religion or
politics I'd say take it elsewhere but railroading, especially with
someone not THAT far removed from the CB&Q itself, should be
fair game for us here.

Leo - Doubt I'll ever make it to a BRHS meet, so tell
me about your encounter with EHH either through our
Group or at my home Email address.
If memory serves me right, EHH was the BN's Chicago
Division Superintendent for a short amount of time in
the early 1970s before being "forced out." My Dad who
had preceded EHH as the Q's Chicago Division
Superintendent some 10 years earlier never would have
had any professional railroading respect for the man,
nor do I today.
Just learned something, I never knew that Keith
Creel, ceo at CP, was EHH's son-in-law. Now, isn't this
a GREAT Group where inquiring minds often
end-up learning more about a subject than they ever
