In Al Holck’s “Hub of the Burlington Lines West” p 159 he has a picture of Train #22 the McCook - Lincoln local (from 1923-1949) and says it was a mixed train for the purpose of handling an occasional car of stock or fruit. Such cars especially fruit off the D&RGW, were handled in a freight train from Denver to McCook, then forwarded on No 22, with the balance of the freight moving on a later freight train.

Bill: Palisade peaches coming into Denver over the D&RGW and destined for points farther east on the Burlington (Omaha among them) were turned over to the Burlington, not the UP unless specifically requested by the shipper. Peaches destined for Kansas City or St. Louis would have been delivered by the D&RGW to Pueblo and turned over to the MP for transport on east. And of course, both the D&RGW and MP were ART members and used ART reefers exclusively. I never saw BREX reefers used for Palisade peach loading, but my time frame for this statement is 1950 and later. Hol
